Russian bank orders 1,000 MAN trucks

A Russian bank is buying 1,000 MAN TGAs. JSC TransKreditBank ordered the MANs though MAN's local sales subsidiary, MAN Avtomobili Rossiya. JSC plans to lease the vehicles to Russian hauliers such as Sovtransauto, Navigator, D-Trans and other members of the Association of International Road Carriers. The order comprises TGA 18.390s and 18.480 4x2 BLSs - 800 will be supplied with LX cabs the remainder will have XLX cabs.

MAN has also increased its production capacity with a new assembly plant in Poland. LGVs are due to start rolling off the line near Cracow within a few weeks.

Canadian Army orders 82 bomb-proof Actroses

The Canadian Defence Ministry has ordered 82 Actroses, with the option of a further 26. The Armoured Heavy Actros (AHA) is an 8x8 vehicle equipped with a high-torque engine rated at 503hp. Power is transmitted via a 16-speed box with diff-locks. Claimed gradeability is 70%. The AHA can wade through water up to 750mm as delivered this can be upgraded to 1,200mm. The armoured cab is designed to withstand bullets, mines and roadside bombs.

Envirogroup expands Kent operations

Biodiesel manufacturer Envirogroup is expanding its Kent operations with a new biodiesel production site at Faversham. The company plans to collect waste vegetable oil from restaurants, schools and hotels in the area for processing into biodiesel.

Kerry McDonagh leaves Daf

Daf marketing and sales director Kerry McDonagh will step down on 1 September in order to be with his family in the UK. He will be replaced by Ron Bonsen, who joined Daf in 1998 as MD of Daf CZ, the manufacturer's Czech subsidiary. Bonsen was appointed MD of Daf Netherlands in 2000, where he was also responsible for the Scandinavian markets. Earlier this year he was appointed MD of Daf Trucks Germany.
