Rygor Commercials has become the first dealership in the UK to supply the Mercedes-Benz Atego crew cab variant in “significant numbers”, after signing a 30-vehicle supply deal with the AA.
The Atego variant, which can carry up to five passengers and has a bespoke tilt and slide body, was purpose-designed and built by specialist recovery vehicle bodybuilder Ceejay Systems. The variants have a 4-tonne payload capacity and can tow vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes.
The first unit was delivered to the AA depot in Runcorn, Cheshire, and is the first Mercedes to run on the 280-vehicle AA fleet since 2001.
Rygor has previously supplied 14 Fuso Canters with beavertail bodies to the AA - the units entered service in 2014 and are used primarily in London.
As part of this deal Rygor supplied the AA with a demonstration unit and AA fleet engineer Chris Wiltshire said: “In 12 months that truck didn’t suffer a single day of downtime, which was hugely impressive. Vehicle availability is crucial to our operation. We work our trucks hard – in five years’ time our Atego will each have covered one million km – so if something was going to give, the chances are we’d have found it quite quickly.”
Rygor is also providing driver training to the AA.
Bill Kingsmill, group fleet and unimog sales manager at Rygor, said he was delighted the dealership had “succeeded in delivering a vehicle that meets the AA’s exacting requirements”.
