Aebi Schmidt sweeper

Aebi Schmidt UK has developed its safest sweeper model yet in collaboration with Volvo and SM UK. The street king 600 truck-mounted sweeper is based on a Volvo FMX 4x2 rigid chassis with full air suspension. The vehicle has a three star DVS rating and safety features from the factory which include front short range assist, side collision avoidance support, and collision warning with emergency brake.

These systems rely on camera and radar technology to identify potential risks and activate braking. The FMX also comes with driver alert support, intelligent speed assist, lane keeping support, a reversing camera, and tyre pressure monitoring system.

On top of standard safety equipment, Aebi Schmidt worked with the commercial vehicle safety specialist SM UK. The sweeper is fitted with forward facing, nearside, offside and reverse cameras as well as two cameras directed towards the SK660‘s sweeper brushes. The feed from these cameras can be accessed with a 4G live view, remote view or download.

At the rear of the vehicle, SM UK’s reverse smart autonomous braking system has been fitted. This detects objects or VRUs in the danger zone behind the vehicle and triggers an audible warning. If the driver doesn’t respond to this warning, the brakes are automatically applied and the vehicle is then stationary for three seconds.

Additional equipment includes front and rear strobe lights, reverse alarm, and a SM UK’s red zone system which illuminates the area around the vehicle that should be kept clear to protect everyone in the vicinity.

Edward Barrie, SM UK business development manager for the Midlands, said: “In conjunction with all the Volvo factory fit safe systems, plus the addition of the installation of our innovative safety features, we believe that safety on the new SK660 will be taken to another level, with the focus on prevention, rather than just reducing risk. “

Aebi Schmidt UK sales manager, Matt Elderkin, said: “By collaborating with Volvo and SM UK in this way, we have sought to achieve the highest safety levels possible on our new SK660, making driver and pedestrian safety paramount. We are all thrilled to be able to demonstrate the many safety features the new SK660 will bring.”
