Sandy McCracken ceases trading; no buyer found

Scottish haulier Sandy McCracken & Son has ceased trading after liquidators failed to find a buyer for the business. The South Lanarkshire-based operator, which ran 45 trucks, called in MLM Insolvency last month with the hope of selling the business after 60 staff were made redundant.

MLM partner Maureen Leslie says that because of the state of the haulage market no buyer could be found, but "we hope to sell the yard by 1 October". The Bank of Scotland is recovering the ledger, Leslie reveals.

"Some of the drivers have found work with former director Duncan McCracken's other business, Machaul, and I believe most of the other drivers have found other work."

She adds that most of the trucks were on lease or contract-hire agreements and have been returned, although three have been bought by Machaul.
