Josh Sadler from MJS Express Limited has won Driver Hire’s coolest cab competition with his Scania R620 V8.

The Scania 4-series was purchased by Sadler’s late father in 2013 and since then has been customised to make it more comfortable and give it more personality. Inside, it features a fully custom interior, upgraded sound system, complete with a subwoofer, amplifier and speakers, a TV, Xbox, fridge and microwave.

Looking to the cab’s exterior, Sadler has added an upgraded exhaust, bumpers, lights and horns.

Sadler said: “My dad set up our family run fleet business, so I’ve grown up around trucks & around our yard, going out with my dad in trucks from a young age, and attending truckfest shows. Once the time came and I passed my class 1 licence, the dream was to always build my own special truck.”

Richard Owen-Hughes, marketing director at Driver Hire Training said: “It’s important for cabs to be comfortable for HGV drivers so they can drive safely over the long hours. Like any workplace, you’ll get the best performance and have happy staff if they have clean, comfortable surroundings, and will represent the company with a sense of pride.

“Whilst it is more difficult to accessorise if you don’t own your truck or you are doing temp work, there are certain things you can do. For example, investing in some seat cushions which you can move from truck to truck, and a mattress topper and pillows to add to the bed if you are working overnight.”

Sadler added: “Having comforts in the cab is very important, especially if you’re away for long periods at a time. It can be a very lonely job at times, and you’re in your own head space for long periods, only interacting with someone at a collection or delivery before heading back down the road again. It’s important your cab is your home away from home. I always like turning up to the customer with a clean well-presented truck and trailer; it’s a great advertisement for the company image and shows you take pride in what you do.”
