Refrigerated and general haulier Fresh Freight Group, based in Washington, Tyne and Wear, recently took delivery of a Next Generation Scania R-series 6x2 tractor unit with Highline twin sleeper cab from Scania North East.

The 17-plate truck, which mainly pulls refrigerated trailers, produces 450hp and comes with fridge and Optimise Control package that gives it access to Scania’s vehicle and driver telematics data. Fresh Freight, which runs 65 vehicles, including 15 rigids, has taken this particular truck on a three-year contract hire agreement with an R&M package.

John Toft, group business development director, said the company is monitoring fuel consumption figures before it decides to take more Scanias. “We currently have the one Next Generation Scania on the fleet and are comparing its performance against our Volvos,” he said.

“With regards to fuel consumption it’s too early to say as this is the first full month we’ve had it. However, the initial feedback from the drivers has been very positive.

“They are reporting good comfort levels, praising the excellent way it drives as well as the look of the vehicle.” Fresh Freight is a family-run firm that has been operating since 1976 and carries out everything from refrigerated transport to same-day courier services.

The Pallet-Track member company has 120 staff and operates 80 refrigerated and semi-trailers. “Scania North East is a good dealership that looks after you and any issues are dealt with quickly by them,” says Toft.
