Scania police truck to be die cast model

Model truck-maker Search Impex has been commissioned to create a 1:50 scale replica of the Central Motorway Police Group's Scania, dubbed the 'spy truck'.

The police have been using the Scania Highline R480 tractor unit since October 2009 to get an eyeline view of truckers. An observer in the passenger seat of the Scania uses a handheld digital camera to record any offenders, enabling the police to check whether truck drivers are complying with the law and not putting themselves or other road users at risk.

"This will be a unique and unusual die cast model which should appeal to some collectors," says Jim Newsome, MD of Derbyshire-based Search Impex.

The model is expected to be available by December, priced at approximately £64.
