APC Overnight member Scarlet Couriers has invested £40,000 to open its fifth depot.

The Slough-based parcel carrier has opened a 20,000ft2 site in High Wycombe, Bucks for its pick and pack services on a 10-year lease. It adds to the firm's existing sites in Bracknell, Reading, Slough and Uxbridge.

Adam Barber, sales director at Scarlet Couriers, tells Roadtransport.com that following the acquisition of West Sussex-based APC member Post Haste Group by CitySprint In January, Scarlet Couriers has increased its postcode coverage to take over Post Haste's area in APC.

"As a result of taking on the additional postcodes, including Hemel Hempstead and Aylesbury, I would say our workload has increased by 30%. We have been extremely busy and our new site joins up our existing customer zones to provide next-day services for clients in the region," Barber says.

There are 10 employees at the depot, but this is expected to rise to 40 as volumes grow.

Ivor Skinner, MD at APC Overnight, adds: "There are approximately 30 members who offer pick and pack services, but it is definitely something that customers are demanding more of. I expect it will make Scarlet Couriers stand out from competitors."
