Trailers built at Schmitz Cargobull’s Manchester facility will now feature an electronic brake performance monitoring system (EBPMS). The solution will be available across new S.CS FREEPOST, S.CS FIXED ROOF or S.BO PACE trailers and integrated with Schmitz Cargobull’s TrailerConnect telematics.

Colin Maher, managing director of Schmitz Cargobull UK & Ireland, says: “Offering customers the option of EBPMS from the day they collect their trailer is yet another example of how Schmitz Cargobull works hard to maximise the time our products spend, safely, and profitably on the road. With the DVSA mandating that hauliers must conduct either a roller brake test or use EBPMS for in-service testing from April this year, we expect this new functionality will prove extremely popular.”

EBPMS is designed to be a safer solution as it provides continuous visibility over braking performance. When in place, the system should help operators to quickly identify and address any potential issues to prevent incidents and maximise uptime.

In line with new guidance around brake testing, using an EBPMS reduces the number of mandatory roller brake tests to one a year. Operators will save on the cost of the test and downtime required for testing.

Used in conjunction with Schmitz Cargobull’s telematics system, brake performance reports can be viewed using the portal. Reports can show brake performance history over time, allowing fleets to build a picture of brake degradation and generate preventative maintenance plans to ensure safety. Information from the EBPMS can be integrated with existing fleet telematics solutions without needing to add extra equipment.

As standard Schmitz Cargobull products come with its telematics system to offer around the clock trailer location monitoring, tyre mileage, speed and axle load data. Although trailers will be fitted with EBPMS from the factory, activating and using the system will be an additional cost.
