Two new trailer models from SDC have been approved for EN XL certification. The dry freight boxvan trailer and hydraulic lifting-deck curtainsider were launched at the CV Show in April and have now been accredited to meet EN 12642 XL.

The assessment was carried out by TUV-NOR Peterborough in August. In order to gain EN12642XL certification each trailer had to go through a series of fully loaded tests to simulate emergency manoeuvres, both in cornering and braking.

The GRP Boxvan trailer was redesigned to improve not only the durability but also the volume, and can now accommodate 34 Euro pallets. It has a galvanised rear frame and crossmember, as well as flush side raves, while corner cappings aim to prevent corrosion.

The Hydraulic Lifting Deck Curtainsider is made with a lightweight deck and is able to transport 52 pallets. Its multi-position ratchet system allows increments of 120mm between decks.

SDC’s engineering manager Jimmy Dorrian said: “EN XL certification guarantees the quality, build strength and safe load containment of the new boxvan and hydraulic lifting deck curtainsider. The trailer models have been designed to provide a number of cost savings for the operator. SDC is continuously reviewing the EN XL range and works closely with customers to develop solutions in line with their requirements.”

SDC’s range of EN XL certified trailers now stands at 10, with wrap-around rear step frame double-deck trailers, Fastliner trailers, 13.6m and 15.65m curtainsiders and platform headboard trailers all available.
