Northern Ireland-based manufacturer SDC Trailers has won a contract to supply 20 box van trailers to Asda, its first contract win with the retail giant.
It is the latest in a series of wins for SDC, which reported a 20% increase in production volumes in July, and already this year has signed contracts with Knights of Old, Massey Wilcox and Edge Transport to supply trailers.
The Toomebridge, Co Antrim firm has also taken on 120 new staff in the past 18 months, and has plans to employ 30 more before the end of the year.
MD Mark Cuskeran (pictured right) said: “Our company has grown strongly in recent years, bucking the trend across the manufacturing sector. Our staff have worked in partnership with management in recent years, to lower our costs and ensure our competitiveness. The key to the future growth and development of the company, and continued job creation, will be in retaining that competitiveness.”
The deal was announced on the same day as Mike Penning, former transport minister and current minister of state for Northern Ireland, visited SDC’s plant.
