Milton Keynes-based Sibley Haulage, a subsidiary of collapsed business F Swain & Sons, is in the process of being sold to an ex-employee of Swain.

Director Paul Sibley says a meeting between staff and the interested party has already taken place and fears over its future have been allayed. He declines to name the proposed buyer.

Sibley Haulage, which has a licence for 26 vehicles and 40 trailers, was bought by F Swain in 2008 for £800,000 and its future looked doubtful when administrators were called in to its parent firm in May 2010.

A licence agreement was soon struck, which allowed it to continue trading while F Swain was in administration, but this was due to expire shortly.

Sibley, who stepped down as director three years ago but continues to run the operational side of the business, says a successful sale will keep the 50-year-old firm alive.

"It all came about because of what happened with Swain," he says. "The administration has dragged on for nine months. Everyone is relatively happy and assuming what we are told is right it will be taken over in the next couple of weeks."

A spokeswoman for administrator BDO LLP says: "The joint administrators are still in discussions about the sale of Sibley Haulage. An offer has been accepted but it has not yet been completed."
