Clive Cowern Transport Services has taken delivery of six new Schmitz Cargobull S.CS Freepost semi-trailers. Supplied by Geoff Ward, regional manager for the North West, Wales and the West Midlands at Schmitz Cargobull UK & Ireland, the new units replace older vehicles in the haulier’s fleet of 50 trailers. The company’s fleet of 60 trucks comprises a mix of DAF and Scania tractor units.
Clive Cowern, managing director of the business, said: “We’ve been impressed by the new trailers. The build quality is very good, and the pillarless design means that there’s no poles for forklifts to damage during loading. Another big thing for me is that they are built in Manchester. It means support and spare parts are readily available, and that we’re backing UK manufacturing.”
The S.CS FREEPOST features a bolted galvanized steel cant rail, fixed aluminium roof sheet, and a reinforced chassis structure. Schmitz Cargobull developed the model to suit the UK market and the Freepost design means it comes without sliding posts. The trailers comply with DIN EN 12642 Code XL load security regulations.
The Shropshire-based haulier opted for Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels, additional storage boxes and anti-theft curtains. The new trailers have been put to work delivering palletised goods of food, drink and fuels to retail locations, garden centres and petrol stations.
Cowern added: “The drivers have said they’re the best trailers they’ve ever had. I was also impressed with the ordering process, which from the factory tour to specification of the trailers and collection, was open, honest and easy.”
The units were supplied with a year’s access to TrailerConnect, Schmitz Cargobull’s telematics solution. An electronic brake performance monitoring system is also fitted as standard to give the haulier the option of using this to keep track of compliance and brake test requirements.
