Transport for London (TfL) says it has received six expressions of interest from operators wishing to demonstrate they are worthy of its newly created 'Gold' standard for its Freight Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS).
The scheme has more than 600 members, running almost 75,000 vehicles, attempting to prove that they are driving down their carbon emissions, parking tickets and vehicle accidents in London.
The Gold standard will separate out the operators that TfL believes are exceptional and are going the extra mile to raise their standards and performance.
No-one has yet been awarded the top membership but Tradeteam which attained its silver membership in 2009, confirms it is one of the six that is hoping to hit the top: "Since we became silver members, we have been posting all our information weekly to prove to FORS we are improving," says operations manager John Crosk. "We are probably market leaders in terms of driving down our PCNs. We have to be able to demonstrate we are heading in the right direction."
TfL says that of the 629 members, 304 are bronze and only 39 are at silver status.
Crosk adds that this might be down to the commitment needed: "You have to look at your operation, take your KPIs and put them into a spreadsheet every week," he says. "My feeling is some people haven't got the resource or the time to go from bronze to silver - but that's just my opinion."
