Essex skip hire haulier RRR Recycling and its director have been ordered to pay a total of £3,000 for storing green waste, metals, soils, concrete, rubble and builders’ waste at its yard without a permit.

In an Environment Agency (EA) prosecution, Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court was told how in February and March 2011 officers contacted Timothy Rushbrook - sole director of RRR - and informed him that he needed a permit to store waste in skips at the Bates Road Yard in Maldon and asked him to clear it from the site.

However, in May 2011 there were still 12 skips at the facility containing the mixed waste.

Although Rushbrook holds certificates in waste management and RRR Recycling holds a waste carriers registration permitting it to transport waste, the business needed a permit to manage the waste.

RRR Recycling Solutions - authorised for one vehicle - pleaded guilty to a breach of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010.

It was fined £500 and ordered to pay a contribution of £1,000 towards EA costs

Rushbrook pleaded guilty to an offence under the same act, was also fined £500 and ordered to pay a contribution of £1000 towards the agency’s costs.
