A chemical manufacturer in the West Midlands has taken delivery of a new Volvo FM rigid with a unique purpose.
West Bromwich-based Robinson Brothers bought the custom-built vehicle to transport the “organic chemical blend” used to put the odour in natural gas, which would otherwise be odourless.
John Worth, gas odorant manager at Robinson Brothers, explained: “We are the only company in the UK that delivers this material which, as you can imagine, has a very strong odour. If you dropped an egg cup of it in Wembley Stadium the whole crowd would be able to smell it.
We purposely designed the truck to ensure that gas odorising material can be transported to a treatment plant in a closed-system that will ensure an odour-free delivery.”
The new vehcile was supplied via the Hartshorne Group.
