Stockport County Council-owned subsidiary Solutions SK has taken on two low-emission Mercedes Benz Econic refuse collection trucks on a six-year contract hire and maintenance deal.

Both Mercedes-Benz Econic 2629LL 6x2s have Euro-5 engines and Faun refuse bodies and Zoeller lifters. Solutions SK manage Stockport County Council's refuse and recycling operations in the borough as well as contracts in the private sector.

Mark Rimmer, Solutions SK's recycling operations manager, environmental and fleet services, says the company is always looking at ways to reduce its carbon footprint.

"These new Mercedes vehicles are up to 33% cleaner in specific emissions than other similar vehicles on the fleet," he says.

The vehicles are part of 230-strong fleet supplied by Boston-based TransLinc.
