Hampshire-based Southern Storage & Transport has joined United Pallet Network (UPN) and added four Renault trucks to its fleet to service increased demand.
The company, based in Alton and established by Eddie Thomas in 1951, has for the past two decades sub-contracted to meet the majority of its road transport needs.
However, MD Mike Thomas says having joined its first pallet network at the start of this month, covering the GU and part of the PO postcodes, the addition of two 6X2 artics as well as an 18-tonner and 7.5-tonner to the operation makes sense.
Thomas says the company, which specialises in warehousing and works with several suppliers to the cosmetic industry, sees membership of UPN as "complementary to our main business of storing palletised freight. I’ve been very impressed with their operation and believe we’ve found a business with a similar ethos."
The vehicles, on long term hire, have been supplied by Fradley-based Allports Group.
Southern Storage & Transport replaces Alan Knight Transport, which moved from UPN to Pallet-Track this summer.
