A TDG driver has had a special number plate fitted to his truck after winning the company's driver of the year competition.

Michael Dee, based in Stowmarket, Suffolk, will have the registration TDG 1 on his vehicle for a year after the company recognised his "excellent work" in helping production lines run smoothly. He also received a customer commendation and a cheque for £2,000.

TDG's shared-user business unit at Ossett, West Yorkshire, was joint winner of the depot of the year award, after being praised by its environmental health officer for reaching high standards of health and safety management on site.

It shared the prize with the logistics unit at Stowmarket, Suffolk, which demonstrated "continuous improvement" of health and safety standards, even though the site has been implementing a new warehouse management system.

Mike Branigan, TDG chief executive, says: "It makes me very proud to see such dedicated employees, who place so much importance on health and safety.

"We have built up our reputation for being a safe pair of hands, and I'm delighted to see that this culture is becoming more embedded, year on year."
