Korean manufacturer SsangYong unveiled an all-new B-segment passenger car at the Geneva motor show, but the compact SUV could be the next model added to the maker’s burgeoning commercial vehicle portfolio.
LCV versions of the Korando and Rexton W already feature alongside the Korando Sports pick-up truck, but a van version of the new Tivoli could eventually be added to the range.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Tivoli, SsangYong CEO Yoo-il Lee didn’t rule out the possibility of more commercial vehicles to come, with an extended version of the new SUV a likely candidate for conversion.
“We have been SUV-first since 2011, but there is more to come,” said Lee when asked by CM sister title Van Advisor about future commercial vehicle development. “A long body [Tivoli] will be introduced later, and it is possible that will have five or seven seats.”
Lee also said the company plans to introduce a new model each year and that research into alternative fueled vehicles was underway.
“We do not know what is the best technology. It might be a range extender or a [full] electric model,” Lee added.
