Container haulage start-up HNC Transport has bought five new Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units just a month after its launch.
The siblings behind the Manchester-based company, Nathan Chambers and Hannah Doolan, have broken away from family firm Stanian Transport and its preference for Volvos, after a three week trial with an Actros turned up strong fuel figures.
Doolan said: “We’re delighted with our new Actros. They’re on container work so the weights can vary, but across the five trucks we’re averaging 9.9 mpg, while on certain runs individual units are recording 11-12 mpg. These are excellent figures.”
The Actros were supplied by Roanza Truck and Van and are powered by 476hp straight-six engines. They have Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated transmissions and Mercedes-Benz's Predictive Powertrain Control.
