Furniture retailer Steinhoff - owner of Bensons for Beds and Harveys - has ordered 67 new Dafs with Martin Williams de-mountable bodies from Asset Alliance on five-year full service agreements.

Steinhoff’s order includes 10 Daf LF 260 12-tonners, now based in Lutterworth on 24-hour trunking duties, and 57 Daf LF 160 7.5-tonne trucks for the home delivery fleet, based in Accrington, Dagenham, Dublin, Huntingdon, Lutterworth and Warrington. Each vehicle in the home delivery fleet is expected to cover up to 75,000 miles a year.

The company has also ordered 71 spare de-mount boxes, as part of a trial to optimise its warehouse and delivery operations. It means freestanding boxes can be pre-loaded in the warehouse for both brands, while vehicles are on the road making deliveries. De-mount boxes can be swapped directly at out-base locations.

Steinhoff supply chain and logistics director Kalwant Singh said: “The de-mountable bodies allow us to utilise the warehouse teams over a 24-hour window, pre-loading boxes for trunking and delivery to our out-base locations.”
