Steve Cusworth, Mercedes-Benz and Fuso truck sales executive, Northside Truck and Van: 60-second interview

My favourite holiday destination is…
The Scottish Highlands or the Lake District.

I drive a…
Mercedes-Benz C350E.

My hobbies are…
Hill walking.

My favourite TV programme is…
The news or documentaries.

The celebrity I would most like to meet is…
Julia Bradbury, presenter of the ITV series Britain’s Best Walks.

I got into the industry…
When I was 19 and landed a job in parts with a truck dealer. I’ve been in the business for 32 years, the past 15 of them with Northside. I recently switched from aftersales to sales.

To encourage more young people into the industry we should…
Sit them in a Mercedes-Benz Actros. I did a stint on the Northside stand at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show and lost count of the number of youngsters who showed an interest in the technology on a modern vehicle. There has been a lot of progress but we still have some way to go before the public are convinced by the technical advances in the industry.

The outlook for our market over the next 12 months is…
Upbeat - the media keeps talking about the uncertainty surrounding Brexit and it might be a factor influencing decisions by the major blue chip fleets. However, it’s not a big issue for operators I’m talking to in and around Leeds.

Northside Truck and Van is different from the competition because…
We invest in our facilities and people. We’re also honest, care about our customers, and are committed to keeping their vehicles on the road.

  • Check out our dedicated Northside Truck and Van dealer page if you're in the market for a truck - it's full of the latest deals.
