Essex's Steve Prince Transport has become a member of two pallet networks to boost its volumes.

The Braintree-based operator has been with Fortec since 2003 but, following Balin Distribution's decision to leave Palletways for Palletline (CM 16 June), has taken on deliveries in the SS postcode for Palletways.

MD Steve Prince told CM that this new arrangement provides extra pallet volume (previously about 30% of total business) for the company, which runs 40 vehicles. He described business in general as "very good", after a decision to take on more container work via Felixstowe and London Thamesport at the start of this year for manufacturing clients.

Speaking about the arrangement, Martyn Young, MD of Palletways UK, says: "Steve Prince Transport and Palletways have agreed to work on a trial period to enable both parties to evaluate the success of the relationship with a view to a permanent appointment being made.

"This is a unique situation and appointing members solely to our network remains our recruitment approach."

The Hazchem Network member will continue to cover the CM, SS and CO post codes for Fortec, which has given Steve Prince Transport permission to enter the arrangement.

In February, Steve Prince Transport entered the bulk haulage market after picking up the contracts left by the closure of aggregates haulier Kings Transport.
