Eddie Stobart has added 225 new curtainsider trailers from Schmitz Cargobull as part of its replacement of the Irlam fleet, purchased in 2008.

Usually a supplier of refrigerated units to Stobart, the new trailers are the first Schmitz curtainsiders sold in to the business, and will operate across a range of current contracts.

Launched in 2009, the new Schmitz fixed-roof curtainsiders are lighter than previous models thanks to new steel roofs that weigh less than traditional aluminium roofs.

Kenny Wylie, Schmitz Cargobull's key accounts manager, says: "We are delighted to have secured this order. While Schmitz Cargobull already provides the overwhelming majority of Eddie Stobart's refrigerated trailer fleet, Eddie Stobart has, until now, had a single supplier for its curtainsiders. This latest order is therefore, particularly significant for us."

In June, Stobart placed a £6m order for 300 SDC curtainsiders.

Roadtransport.com recently reported on Stobart's extended semi-trailer, which the company says will benefit all operators and help allow their operations on certain contracts to cube-out without exceeding current weight limits.
