Vehicle tracking provider Ctrack has been awarded a contract with Sunderland City Council covering 370 vehicles in its maintenance, support services and building fleets.
The tracking system provides real-time and historical fleet data, recording a vehicle's location, speed and direction, which Sunderland City Council hopes will help cut long-term fuel costs, and provide extra security in the fight against fraudulent accident claims. The vehicles, which include vans, refuse trucks and road sweepers, have also been fitted with panic alarms to improve safety for lone workers.
The flow of real-time data from its fleet is already helping the council to minimise its vehicle usage by keeping its fleet to designated routes and improving driver efficiency. The council has already noticed a 13 % reduction in fuel consumption across its fleet.
John Todd at Sunderland City Council says: "Ctrack's tracking system has already contributed to driving down our fuel costs, and we expect to achieve further business and operational benefits moving forward. We have worked closely with Ctrack to develop a tracking solution that will enhance the overall performance of our fleet and ultimately heighten the service we provide to our customers."
