A Northern Ireland haulage company is offering a £5,000 reward for information that leads to the return of two Scania tractor units stolen from its yard earlier this month.
Vincent Waddell, MD at Surefreight in Newry, says he is anxious to get the vehicles returned after three men walked into his premises on the Carnbane Industrial estate and drove them out of the yard.
The incident occurred at about 12.30am on Saturday 19 November and so far it has left the company and police baffled, particularly as both vehicles are not normal fleet spec and are therefore distinctive in appearance.
“They had a code to get into the back gate and they removed the trackers from the units,” Waddell says. “It has to be someone with knowledge of the company and the yard.
“Our CCTV showed three people but it’s not clear enough for identification. They left the yard about 1.05am and there have been no sightings of them since.”
One of the vehicles is a recently painted red Scania, DD55TOP, R420 6x2 Topline Midlift, with Opticruise gearbox and chrome stack and alloy wheels, complete with Surefreight livery.
The other is a white Scania R500 6x2, registration RLZ9354, with small mid lift axle, complete with top bar and 2x700 litre fuel tanks and grey side skirts, also in the firm’s livery.
Waddell adds: “Perhaps someone travelling home saw something but never thought about it at the time; maybe someone has seen something that’s of use to us. We are very anxious to have them returned.”
