Suttons Group has marked its 60th anniversary by adding four new Daf CF units to its fleet, all paying homage to one of its former liveries.

The new livery features its anniversary logo and is decorated with its traditional Union Flag livery.

The Widnes-based tanker operator was established in 1954 by Alf Sutton, grandfather of current CEO John Sutton (pictured).

It began with 18 vehicles and 58 staff, following the de-nationalisation of the long-distance haulage sector. Prior to nationalisation, Alf ran AB Suttons & Sons, which was set up in 1926.

Sutton said de-nationalisation allowed the company to push its technology forward, and it adapted its six-wheelers to be able to carry 22 tonnes of payload – four more than the competition.

“There is no doubt that this resourceful and innovative approach to operations laid the foundations for the modern-day transport and logistics sector,” said Sutton. The company now operates in five continents and employs more than 800 staff.

John, who took up his position last year, said: “Suttons has enjoyed many successes in the last 60 years and looks well placed to capitalise on the opportunities it has identified across the world.”
