Tesco in Northern Ireland has taken delivery of eight brand-new Mercedes-Benz 4x2 Axors, which will work alongside the supermarket’s 37 existing tractor units, six fridge-bodied rigids and 115 trailers.
Nigel Baranokski, head of Tesco’s engineering support department, says: “Our experience over the nine years since its introduction has confirmed the Axor to be exceptionally reliable and highly fuel-efficient.”
However, he adds that it’s not “just about the metal”, as the company is looking for reliable back-up and support from its local Mercedes-Benz dealer, which it will be monitoring closely to see if it delivers a the “high quality of back-up that we expect”.
