Tesco plans to create more than 100 jobs at a new fresh food distribution centre in Pilning, South Gloucestershire.
According to the supermarket giant, the new permanent jobs will include opportunities for HGV drivers to work within the warehouse operation; they are expected to be advertised this autumn.
Scheduled to open next spring, the new distribution centre will serve Tesco stores in Wales, the South and the South-West of England, the company reveals.
The new 483,000ft2 fresh food facility will replace the nearby Chepstow distribution centre, and offer increased capacity to serve Tesco's growing network of stores across the regions, Tesco says, as well as enhanced staff facilities and environmental benefits.
Tesco will create a further 100 new jobs, in addition to the 747 existing staff already employed at its distribution centre in Chepstow, who are being offered the chance to work at the new distribution centre.
Distribution operations director Nigel Jones says: "Earlier this year, Tesco announced plans to create more than 10,000 jobs nationwide through store and distribution centre openings this year.
"Our new distribution centre at Pilning not only represents a long-term investment within the area, but is also good news for local job-seekers, particularly in the current climate."
Tesco has also revealed that it will be the first tenant for phase one of the new Portal West Distribution Park, which is situated near the M4 and M5. This will create hundreds of further new jobs.
