Tesco RDC awaits council approval

Plans for a regional distribution centre (RDC) in Andover, Hants that Tesco hopes to lease from developers will finally be decided next month. Developer Goodman is hoping to receive permission from Test Valley Borough Council to redevelop the former Andover airfield, which would include building a one million ft2 warehouse that Tesco would occupy.

The plans took a controversial twist earlier this year when it became known that Tesco will close its Weybridge, Surrey distribution centre, with the loss of 700 jobs, if the application gets the green light.

A Tesco spokeswoman tells Motor Transport that it identified a number of environmental controls put in place by the council that it had concerns over and that it has discussed these with councillors. The application was refused by the council in September, but will be heard by the planning control committee on 1 December.
