Sub-zero temperatures produced a thick frost. Moonlight made the temporary surface on the ground and trucks sparkle like diamonds. Movement triggered the security light and the glitter was replaced by a vast bright, white carpet.

Asbo Trev, dressed in jeans, steel toe-capped boots, hi-vis jacket and woolly hat – all covered in fifth-wheel grease – left the warmth of the Mondeo and approached the metal gates.

Expelled breath hung heavy in the air. He fish keys from his trouser pocket and fumbled with the lock. It was frozen. Despite several efforts he couldn’t unlock it. The cold metal began to freeze his fingers.
