Thieves have stolen an Eddie Stobart lorry with £40,000 worth of wine and spirits on board. The group broke into the company's site in Holytown, Lanarkshire last Sunday and took the truck. It was later recovered on the road between Carnwath and Forth, while the trailer was found abandoned near Falkirk, minus its cargo of drink.

A £5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the thieves. A spokesman for Eddie Stobart says: "This is the first time something like this had happened at our Scottish operations. "There does not appear to be damage to the vehicle, which is worth around £60,000.

"It is still in the hands of forensic experts, but we hope to have it on the road as soon as possible. We hope that by offering a reward, it may encourage someone to come forward with information." Police want to speak to anyone with information on the theft, or who may have seen either the vehicle or trailer being abandoned.

Anyone with information should call Bellshill CID on 01698 202400.
