Viridor Waste Management at Trafford Park, Manchester has taken delivery of nine new Volvo trucks, a mix of FMX and FE skip loaders and rollonoffs.
The rigids, which feature D8K and D11K engines as well as I-Shift transmissions, supplement the six Volvos the firm already has in its fleet.
Viridor considered trucks from several manufacturers during a lengthy national procurement exercise but picked Volvo because of positive driver feedback and the excellent service it has previously received from Thomas Hardie, which also provides full R&M for the Trafford Park fleet.
Chris Hanson-Jones, logistics unit manager at Viridor Trafford Park, said: “It comes down to suitability of the vehicle for the job, which comes ahead of cost. The Volvo product is reliable and operates particularly well on landfills.
“If you are a Viridor Trafford Park driver and you're driving a skip vehicle it will now always be a Volvo chassis cab with a Boughton Engineering skip loader on the back, so you'll always be familiar with the vehicle and controls.”
