Thompsons will officially launch its new maximum payload steel tipper body, Stonemaster, at this month's Tip-ex show in Harrograte.

Stonemaster offers a payload of 20 tonnes when fitted to the majority of mainstream UK specification 8x4 chassis, according to Thompsons.

Scott Burton, a director at Thompsons, said: “To date, there have been steel bodies that can get a 20 tonnes payload, but almost always they’ve only had a few kilos to spare.

"Add the driver and a tank of fuel, and they’ve lost it. In contrast, Stonemaster gives operators a wider, safer leeway that makes 20 tonnes payloads quite achievable with typical, standard specification 8x4 chassis.”

Ahead of the official launch Day Group has been putting two Stonemaster's, one on a Volvo FM chassis and one on a Daf CF, through their paces.

Chris Cooling, group transport manager at Day Group, said: “The new Stonemaster is exactly the tipper body we really need. It gives us 20 tonnes payload without difficulty. It gives us better operational flexibility in how we run our trucks. It promises us lower whole life costs."

One of Day Group's Stonemasters will be on show on the Thompsons stand (Hall A) at Tip-ex.

  • Tip-ex is the UK’s only exhibition dedicated to the tipper and bulk transport sector. The show takes place from 30 May to 1 June at the Harrogate International Centre and entrance is free, so register now.
