Robinsons Brewery has taken delivery of three new DAF XB 260 ‘FT’ 4x2 urban artics.

The new additions bring the independent, family-run brewery’s exclusive DAF fleet up to 13 vehicles including DAF LF trucks.

Based on a positive experience with six-year old DAF LF urban artics, Robinsons Brewery looked to DAF to replace vehicles from a competing manufacturer. The XB tractors have a GCW of 21-tonne and will be put to work distributing to 250 pubs, inns and hotels across the North West of England and North Wales.

Equipped with PowerLine eight-speed automatic gearboxes, the high specification vehicles also feature three-star DVS ratings. Robinsons will pair the trucks with single-axle urban trailers from Lawrence David.

Logistics manager, Mathew Heath, said: “The DAF XB urban artic appears to be purpose built for us. They are brilliant around town. Nimble, super-easy to manoeuvre and the drivers are really, really impressed with the game-changing PowerLine transmission. Coupled with the 260bhp engine, it’s just so sprightly and responsive. We don’t carry a huge amount of weight, but the XB makes for effortless driving in an urban environment – our drivers are very happy indeed.”

DAF Dealer Motus Commercials, based in Manchester, supplied the new XB tractors. Robinsons Brewery has taken the vehicles on a seven-year DAF MultiSupport repair and maintenance contract.

Heath said: “Motus are a key part of our operation, they work around our shift patterns, and it makes for a seamless and first-class level of support. It’s a true partnership we’ve enjoyed for six years now and it's proving to be beneficial to both organisations.”

The DAF XB is part of the New Generation range. The model is designed for distribution work in urban locations. DAF also offers the vehicle with an electric powertrain to suit operators looking for a low-noise, zero-emission inner-city solution.
