Dobbs Logistics has taken delivery of three new Volvo FH500 with I-Save Globetrotter XL 6x2 tractor units. The haulier previously ran trucks from a different manufacturer but after a recommendation from a local business found Volvo’s turbo compound technology offered significant fuel savings. Supplied by Jack Nutley, truck sales executive at MC Truck & Bus, the vehicles are expected to cover around 160,000km annually on trunking routes in the UK as well as general haulage jobs in Europe.

Lynton Manser, director at Dobbs Logistics, said: “We’d heard excellent first-hand feedback about Volvo’s I-Save package. When the time came to bring some new models onto the fleet, Volvo was one of the key contenders on our list and soon after our initial discussions we quickly concluded that it was time to try something new.

“So far, that decision has proven the correct one – though the trucks have only been with us a short while they’re already yielding as much as two extra miles per gallon versus the tractor units they replaced. Across their time with us, that should result in a significant cost saving that certainly won’t go unnoticed.”

The trucks are equipped with 500bhp Euro-6 compliant engines with 2,810Nm of torque. This is paired with a 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission and software features including map-based predictive cruise control, I-See, and I-Cruise with I-Roll.

Inside, there’s heated and suspended driver’s seats, leather upholstery, dual arm rests, and adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt. Drivers have access to a 33-litre fridge/freezer, two bottle holders and a 50mm premium mattress protector. Dobbs Logistics also opted for the I-Park cool system which keeps the cab cool at night.

Manser said: “Driver comfort is one of our key priorities and I’m pleased to report – especially having driven one of the new tractor units down to Italy myself – these trucks have more than hit the mark. We have one driver in the business with more than 20 years of experience driving other makes – his immediate feedback was that he absolutely loves the Volvo product from top to bottom.”

The FH units will stay on the fleet for three years as part of a lease agreement with Volvo financial services. During that time, the trucks are covered by a Volvo gold repair and maintenance contract.
