Work has begun on a new £22m Tiger Trailers plant in Winsford that will enable the firm to double its annual production to around 3,000 trailers and bodies.

Tiger Trailers aims to create 120 skilled jobs at the 168,000ft² factory on the Winsford Industrial Estate over the next three years, which is less than a mile from its current site. Once new paint booths, a shot blasting booth, cranes and materials handling equipment have been installed, the company will start transferring equipment into the new factory in late-December and early-January.

The opening of the plant is expected to speed up delivery times and enable Tiger Trailers to enter new markets, including home delivery and temperature-controlled. There is also room at the site for a second potential build phase that could increase production capacity to about 5,000 trailers and bodies per year, without disruption to existing production.

Tiger Trailers, which currently employs 180 staff, has an immediate requirement for 40 new members of staff, including 20 apprentices. Joint MD John Cartwright said: “We’ve been planning this factory for almost two years; we’re now only six months away and we can’t wait to realise its full potential.

“Our pace of growth has been pretty remarkable for a UK-based manufacturer, driven by customer demand both domestically and within Europe."
