Tip-Ex, the specialist tipper and bulk transport show, has been cancelled for 2009 "due to worsening economic conditions". The news follows the cancellation of the CV Show and the TERTS show in Amsterdam. Tip-Ex was to have taken place in Harrogate, and for the past couple of years had been a viable successor to the previous exhibition at the same venue, TipCon.
The organisers' other specialist transport shows, Tank-Ex and Cool-Ex, are still scheduled to go ahead this year.
This is a press release from the organisers of Tip-Ex, G&T Events:
After consultation with official partner Commercial Motor and the exhibitor advisory panel, Tip-Ex organiser G&T Events has announced that it has regrettably decided to cancel this year’s exhibition. Although Tip-Ex09 still enjoys the support of well over 50 exhibitors, the late withdrawal of a small number of major tipping trailer manufacturers and body builders, due to worsening economic conditions has, the company believes, put the viability and relevance of the 2009 show in doubt.
“Without these important exhibitors, we believe that the format of this year’s show would not have fully represented the tipping industry’s wide range of products and services,” said G&T Director Dave Tallent.
“Our decision to cancel the show has not been taken lightly. Over the last two years, Tip-Ex’s success and its appeal to exhibitors and tipper operators alike has been built on its dedication solely to the tipping and bulk transport industries. The absence of key manufacturers in this sector would, we believe, undermine the show’s credibility in this respect which could in turn have seriously impacted on future shows.
“Although we deeply regret having to cancel the show for 2009, we feel it is in the best interests of our valued exhibitors and the tipping industry. However we are determined to make next year’s event the biggest and best ever.”
Exhibitors meanwhile have been voicing their continuing support for Tip-Ex.
Tony Davies, managing director of exhibitor Hyva, commented:
“Obviously it is a great shame that the show, which is dedicated to our business sector, has had to be cancelled due to the economic climate. Tip-Ex is the perfect opportunity for our industry to display products and to meet with our customers in the lovely town of Harrogate. However in these difficult times we need to minimise our costs to ensure we can remain competitive in the market place. Hyva is committed to the Tip-Ex show and what it represents to our industry and so we have already booked our place for 2010."
Vishay PM Onboard Director Andy Graham said:
“As a key supplier to the Bulk Haulage Industry we are being hit by the same extraordinary circumstances of the current economy and it is a time for all of us to conserve costs at every opportunity. It is very disappointing that the Tip-Ex show is cancelled for 2009 because of this but it makes more sense for the industry to preserve this important showcase event in its full form rather than to have a diluted version due to a reduced attendance. 2010 should see resurgence in the economy and the Tip-Ex show will be well timed for the industry to signal this return and we will definitely be attending this show as a key part of our promotional strategy.”
David Taylor, Managing Director DG Taylor Commercial Vehicles Ltd added:
“We too are naturally very disappointed that Tip-Ex09 won’t be going ahead, but we will be giving next year’s show our full support. The tipping industry needs its own dedicated exhibition and over the last two years Tip-Ex has provided both exhibitors and operators with the perfect environment in which to do business. We look forward to 2010 being the best Tip-ex ever. We will certainly be there”
Wilcox Bodies managing Director Vito Ronzano said:
“Tip-Ex is a very important show for our industry and, with the hope that the economic conditions will improve before the end of the year, Wilcox will remain committed to attend the exhibition in 2010 and hopefully for some years after that.”
