Palletline will add two new members to its network next month as it welcomes a pair of well-regarded transport firms to the operation.
The identity of one of the firms comes as a surprise - Worcestershire operator TM Logistics has not traditionally handled freight suitable for the pallet sector.
However, TM Logistics chief executive Stephen Taylor says the firm wanted to become part of a network, as some full-load customers had palletised consignments to move which it was turning away. Initial volumes will be relatively small, he says, but predicts they will grow.
TM Logistics will cover postcodes in south Birmingham, Coventry and Worcestershire, taking away some areas from existing Palletline members.
The other firm joining Palletline is Olivers Transport. Based in Eccles in the Scottish borders it will cover the TD postcodes.
As with TM Logistics, it is Olivers' first time in a network. MD Kenneth Oliver says: "We have previously resisted becoming a network member because we have traditionally provided a door-to-door service for our customers ourselves.
"Palletline was able to prove to us that it would not be a weak link in the chain." The other attraction of network membership, he says, is that "no one else in our area does it".
Palletline MD Kevin Buchanan adds: "It's another example of high-quality members coming to Palletline; they recognise the economic advantages of the network."
