Airdrie-based vehicle rental company Tom Group is on the acquisition trail as it looks to strengthen its Caledonian Truck and Van Mercedes-Benz dealer group network.
Franchise director Vincente Connolly (pictured) said the decision by private equity firm Equistone to buy a majority stake in the group, supporting a change of ownership last December, means there is an opportunity to expand the business beyond its sites in Aberdeen, Airdrie, Ayr and Nairn.
He said: “We have the finance to expand and want to develop the Caledonian dealer business into other parts of Scotland. We are open to growth opportunities both organically and through acquisition in the dealer and rental side of the business as well as significant investment at the current branches.”
Connolly joined Tom in May and is on its executive board. He has worked for Mercedes-Benz in a series of senior roles since 2005, most recently, for three years, as director, national sales for Mercedes-Benz Trucks UK at its headquarters in Milton Keynes.
He said: “Tom was an intriguing opportunity that appealed to me. I have a brief to drive the group’s Mercedes-Benz business forward and I am excited to rekindle existing relationships and meet new customers. It’s a dynamic, fast-growing business and we have big plans for growth.”
