Top 10 most viewed stories in 2012

It's been a big year for commercial vehicle launches with the new Daf XF, Volvo FH and Ford Transit Custom. Commercialmotor.com has pulled together the top 10 most viewed stories in 2012 and the new trucks have topped the list.

1.    Daf unveils new XF

We were there when Daf revealed its new truck at the IAA Hannover show this year. Called simply ‘XF’ the new model goes into production in the spring and is a refreshed version of the popular XF105 model which was introduced seven years ago. As the most-viewed story, it seems you’re as excited as we are about this new truck!


2.    New Ford Transit Custom revealed ahead of show debut

In April Ford released pictures of the new Ford Transit Custom ahead of its appearance at the CV show in Birmingham. The brand new van range offers payloads from 600-1,400k, can carry three pallets and is available in short and long wheelbase lengths.


3.    Volvo reveals new FH in viral YouTube video

The internet was buzzing with excitement when Volvo released images of the new FH in a YouTube video in August. The video, called ‘The Ballerina Stunt’ featured highliner Faith Dickey walking on a tightrope between two of the new trucks, one month before it was unveiled to the world at the IAA Hannover show.

4.    Volvo FH re-designs what a premium truck can offer

The much-anticipated Volvo FH was finally launched on 5 September in Gothenburg, Sweden and Commercialmotor.com had the full spec ahead of it beginning production in the spring.


5.    Tributes roll in for haulage legend Stan Robinson

The road haulage industry said goodbye  to the legendary haulage boss Stan Robinson, when he died at age 70 in April.


6.    Autologic in talks with Stobart over potential sale

Stobart submitted its proposal to take over car transporter firm Autologic in May, an acquisition that would transform Stobart Group into the largest car transporter haulage firm in the UK. Stobart group did take over the company a few months later.


7.    AR Lunn enters administration

115 employees were made redundant when Hull-based AR Lunn Transport & Warehousing entered administration in March. After nearly 30 years, it ceased trading due to pressure from the rising price of fuel and operating costs.


8.    Eddie Stobart and AW Jenkinson order another 1,000 Scanias

In a joint procurement deal, Stobart and AW Jenkinson expanded their fleets by taking on a number of new Scanias. 300 vehicles went into operation this year and the remaining 700 are expected to arrive by December 2013.


9.    250 jobs at risk as Eddie Stobart looks to close Alcester and Corby DCs

January saw Stobart consult with 300 employees over plans to close its Alcester and Corby DCs. Despite the closures, it invested in a new site at Magna Park near Lutterworth, Leicestershire.


10.    DVLA: up to 175,000 tachograph cards could be faulty

Drivers up and down the country reported an error with their tacho cards earlier this year, which saw an error code displayed when the cards were inserted. Thankfully, the issue has now been resolved and only affected cards issued between 24 March 2007 and 31 August 2008.
