Carlow-based Topaz Transport has strengthened its relationship with Volvo Trucks by welcoming a new Volvo FH 540 Globetrotter XL 6x2 tractor unit to its fleet.
Supplied by Joe Baker, sales executive at McCarthy Commercials, this addition marks another milestone in Topaz Transport's long-standing relationship with the manufacturer, as 28 out of its 32-strong commercial vehicle fleet now have an iron mark on their grilles.
Commenting on the new truck, which will predominantly be used for transporting containers, Neil Moloney, transport manager at Topaz Transport said: “Volvo simply delivers the best bang for your buck. We see little reason to go elsewhere in the near term.” He also acknowledged the brand's consistency in delivering decent fuel economy, reliability, comfort, and aesthetics.
The FH is powered by a D13K Euro-6(e) engine, delivering 540hp and a maximum torque of 2,600Nm. It’s partnered with Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift gearbox and I-See predictive cruise control system.
Inside the Globetrotter XL cab is Volvo's Drive++ package, which includes features like electronic air conditioning, air quality sensors, dual armrests, and leather upholstery. Comfort is improved further via full air suspension and a Living package that offers added storage space, a plush mattress topper, and a deluxe sleeper control panel. Topaz Transport has also added a microwave.
The truck's infotainment system includes a navigation package, DAB radio, and a high-resolution instrument cluster accompanied by a secondary colour information display. Electrically operated heated rear-view mirrors and Volvo's signature V-Shaped LED headlamps enhance driver visibility.
Topaz Transport, a family-run operation headquartered in Carlow, Ireland, and serving destinations across Ireland and the UK, has procured the truck through a Hire Purchase agreement with Volvo Financial Services. It is projected to cover around 120,000km annually within a five-day working schedule.
Maloney added: "My father is Volvo through and through – I lose track of just how many models he’s owned. His passion certainly played a big part in us choosing to go with Volvo in the first place. We’re very glad that’s proven the right decision time and time again!”
