As CM went to press, Walsall, West Midlands-based waste trailer-maker JBC Trailers confirmed it plans towinddown the business after struggling to find work in the sector. A spokeswoman for the eight-year-old firm confirms to CM that the firm will cease trading following a six-month period of quiet sales.

"People are just not buying trailers and there is too much competition from the used market. We were very busy before the economic downturn, but we don't have enough work now," she says.

JBC Trailers makes and designs bulk ejector and Keith Walking Floor-equipped trailers. Its most recent accounts, for the year ending 31 October 2007, show it had fixed assets worth almost £75,000 and its current liabilities were £464,000, up from£379,000 in 2006. There are 10 staff based at the site, and CM understands that redundancies were announced in October 2008.
