Truck and Bus Wales and West supplies RK Bell Group with an FH 500 6x2 tag axle tractor unit

Bridgwater-based construction, civil engineering, plant hire and surfacing specialist, RK Bell Group has taken delivery of an FH 500 - its first new Volvo for fifteen years.

The new 6x2 tag axle tractor unit, supplied by dealer Truck and Bus Wales and West, features a 3.0-metre wheelbase, reinforced front bumper, headlamp grilles, additional guard plates and 13-litre engine.

The vehicle, with Globetrotter cab, also includes a Jost fifth wheel, Alcoa wheels, stainless steel exhaust stack, additional work lights, four-way camera system, leather trim, a fridge freezer and microwave.

RK Bell also specified Volvo’s Gold contract maintenance and a Dynafleet package for the FH which is plated to operate at up to 60-tonnes gross vehicle weight under special types regulations.

Company director and transport manager, Wayne Salter said: “Our previous tractor unit was a pusher axle and it struggled for traction and manoeuvrability on site, but the tag axle layout is perfect for our operation.

“The truck pulls a step-frame low-loader trailer moving heavy plant and equipment. Our largest machine weighs in at 35 tonnes, so the outfit has ample capacity.”
