A crash involving three trucks and two cars has caused hours of traffic chaos on the M25 and the Dartford tunnel.

The pile up, which happened just after 7am today, near the Thurrock services, saw one truck shed its load across the M25, leading to closure of two of the three lanes on the motorway, anticlockwise, between the Dartford tunnel and Thurrock services

Although the motorway was fully opened by midday, delays of up to eight miles remain, the Highways England has warned, with traffic being held intermittently at the Dartford crossing to prevent queues in the tunnel.

There are also long queues heading towards the Blackwall tunnel as London-bound drivers avoid the Dartford Crossing.

Many motorists have reported waiting for two to three hours on the A2, with some giving up on their journey and turning around.

Drivers expressed their frustration online, with one cab driver tweeting: “#DartfordCrossing WARNING!! 6 mile tailback S/B, 9 miles N/B and worsening due to huge RTC. 2h+ of queues N/B. Avoid!
