There were several fatal accidents involving trucks over the August Bank Holiday weekend, with one truck driver killed in a collision with two other LGVs on the M25. Essex police have not yet named the driver who died, but it is understood that his truck hit two others which were stationary on the hard shoulder of the motorway between Junctions 26 and 27. The accident happened at 3.30am on Monday morning.

In Southampton a 35-year-old truck driver was arrested on suspicion of careless driving after an accident in which a motorcyclist died at Southampton container terminal. He has been bailed pending further inquiries. The rider, Shannon Passingham, of Fawley, was killed when his motorcycle hit the truck as it turned right in the docks.

Another motorcyclist died on Bank Holiday Monday itself when his bike was involved in a collision with a truck at Clutton Alders, near Exeter. In Derbyshire a car driver was killed at 5.30am on Saturday (26 August) when his car collided with a truck on the A6 at Duffield. The road was closed for seven hours police have appealed for witnesses. Later that day motorcyclist George Dearden of Fleetwood died when his bike collided with a van. Again, police have appealed for witnesses.
