TruckEast Escalation technician, Colin Woodcock: 60-second interview

My favourite holiday destination is…
Florida - everyone is always smiling and they do things bigger and better.

I drive a…
Ford S-Max.

My hobbies are…
Numerous - I’m a jack of all trades, always turning my hand to something. I love teaching kids new skills, for example BMX tricks and skateboarding.

My favourite TV programme is…
Any police television show.

The celebrity I would most like to meet is…
Dwayne Johnson.

I got into the industry because…
I always enjoyed making and breaking things as a kid. I missed out on an apprenticeship so went to college to do a Level 1 City and Guilds qualification and then the following year joined an apprenticeship scheme.

To encourage more young people into the industry we should…
Encourage the skills you can learn hands on. Promote the long-term opportunities, as a person can go far if they want to. You learn a trade but you have skills and a career for life.

The outlook for technicians at TruckEast over the next 12 months is…
More training to support the new technology as Scania launches the remaining phases of Next Generation models. Not to mention what’s on the horizon with gas and electric vehicles.

TruckEast is different from the competition because…
There are two things I’ve noticed in my 17 years with the company: staff are shown respect for doing a great job; and you’re offered the room to grow and improve. That’s why staff stay and progress.
