Southern Van Lines has added two new Iveco S-Way 490 low-chassis trucks to its fleet. The vehicles are due to work across Europe, moving staging and equipment for music and theatre tours. The low-chassis configuration allows the company to tow 4m mega trailers in Europe.

Charles Colley, director of Southern Van Lines said: “We previously didn’t run Ivecos on our fleet, but after testing the Iveco S-Way, it impressed us all. In fact, some of our drivers are now Iveco converts, preferring these trucks to other brands they used to drive. This pair are great on fuel and Acorn Trucks has provided good service.”

The S-Ways will run on HVO which offers a significant emissions reduction compared to diesel. HVO is a drop in fuel that can be used interchangeably with diesel without the need for engine modifications, using HVO also has no impact on the vehicle’s manufacturer warranty. Every year, the trucks are expected to cover around 100,000km and Southern Van Lines opted for a fixed cost five-year repair and maintenance contract.

Wiliam MacBurnie, sales executive at Acorn Trucks said: “It was a pleasure working with Southern Van Lines on these high spec vehicles. The 4x2 Low Chassis with air suspension achieves the 4m max height needed to drive on the European roads, and the powerful Cursor 13 engine ensures great fuel economy returns. We’re thrilled with the results!”

To provide its drivers with the best cab experience throughout their European travels, Southern Van Lines specified the S-Ways with a fridge and microwave, bunk curtains, door blinds and an automatic air conditioner with parking cooler.

Mike Cutts, Iveco business line director full range UK & ROI said: “The Iveco S-Way range offers a wide variety of solutions for every mission. Low-chassis models give operators added flexibility when operating in Europe, and these eye-catching tractor units are an excellent example of this.”

Iveco will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo 2025, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh between 24-26 June. It’s free to attend and registrations are now open.
