Founder Palletways members PF Whitehead and Welch's Transport are leaving the network to join Palletline.
On 19 March, Cambridge-based Welch's Transport will join Palletline, ending a 16-year partnership with Palletways. The firm will continue to operate in the Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire areas.
Palletline managing director, Kevin Buchanan, tells Roadtransport.com that nine members had to reshuffle their postcodes to accommodate Welch's Transport.
"We have never experienced such a change to take in a new member, but our members felt it was worth it, because they are a strong regional family-run company. We think it will be very beneficial for us," Buchanan adds.
On 1 May, Croydon-based PF Whitehead will also join Palletline, covering Croydon, Feltham and some other parts of South London.
A Palletways spokeswoman says other members will cover any leaving members' postcodes, to ensure that it is business as usual for customers.
Meanwhile, Buchanan reveals that January volumes were up 9% on January 2009, and going into February, average throughput has been 9,000 pallets per night.
"This is an unusually strong start to the year, but I'm happy and hope the growth continues," he concludes.
